Functional Capacity Evaluations

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a comprehensive assessment used to determine an individual's ability to perform work-related tasks. This evaluation measures physical strength, flexibility, stamina, and overall functional abilities. The primary goal of an FCE is to assess a person's capacity to safely perform the physical demands of their job or to guide decisions about appropriate work placements and accommodations.

An FCE typically includes a series of standardized tests and activities that simulate common job tasks, such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and other movements relevant to the person's occupation. The results provide valuable information for healthcare providers, employers, and insurance companies to make informed decisions about an individual's work capabilities, necessary workplace modifications, and rehabilitation goals. It is a critical tool in workers' compensation cases to ensure a safe and effective return to work.
